The Olympic Games pick up the action with a widened slate of competitions. There will be 23 total disciplines on display Saturday, including the Olympic debut of men’s and women’s 3-on-3 basketball. Simone Biles also makes her return to Olympic competition. What else is on at the Olympics? We’ve got you covered.
Among Saturday’s events, archery, cycling, fencing, judo, shooting, taekwondo and weightlifting will be awarding medals.
Top event: Men’s and women’s 3-on-3 basketball (9:15 p.m. ET). The U.S. men did not qualify for the Olympic debut of 3-on-3 hoops, but Team USA will be represented by Stefanie Dolson, Kelsey Plum, Allisha Gray and Katie Lou Samuelson on the women’s side.
The rules include a half-court setting with games ending after either 10 minutes or upon a team reaching 21 points. Shot clocks will have a length of 12 seconds.
Beyond the arc, made buckets are valued at two points. Any closer attempts result in one point. The tournament will have an eight-nation field for each gender.
The medal rounds conclude on July 28th.

Olympic athletes to watch
Basketball: Kelsey Plum will be key to Team USA’s fortunes in 3-on-3 basketball. The Las Vegas Aces’ guard averaged 13.5 points per game in the first half of the WNBA season despite missing the 2020 campaign altogether. That is on pace for her highest scoring average since being drafted first overall in 2017.
Gymnastics: Biles is two medals away from tying the American gymnastics record held by Shannon Miller. Biles is also trying to become just the third gymnast to win consecutive all-around gold medals. Her quest for those begins Saturday.
