Oakville doesn’t share Mississauga’s internet map. On the network-owner map, cable in Mississauga is mostly Rogers. In Oakville, it is mostly Cogeco, and a newer fibre network has been building out in town since December 2025. Oakville had 213,759 people in the 2021 census, and your internet connection is what decides how well live TV plays here. Here’s who runs Oakville’s lines, what streaming needs, and how to test Boom TV on your own connection first.

Still a town, in Halton Region

Oakville is a town, not a city, and it sits in the Regional Municipality of Halton, where it is the regional seat. Today’s Oakville took shape in 1962, when the old town amalgamated with Trafalgar Township. The town takes in Bronte, on the Lake Ontario shore in the southwest, and Palermo in the northwest.

Oakville also grew 10.3% between the 2016 and 2021 censuses. Older lakeside streets and newer neighbourhoods can be on different technology, so your neighbour’s options aren’t always yours.

In Oakville, cable mostly means Cogeco

An independent coverage map built from CRTC network-owner filings (the CRTC is Canada’s telecom regulator) splits Oakville into 12 zones. It shows a different picture from Mississauga:

  • Cogeco cable is mapped in about 83% of Oakville’s zones, and Cogeco fibre in the same share. Cogeco says its network combines fibre and coaxial cable.
  • Rogers cable is mapped in about a third of zones, and Rogers fibre in fewer.
  • Bell fibre-to-the-home is mapped in about 92% of zones, with Bell’s older DSL listed everywhere.
  • Smaller fibre owners such as CIK and Standard Broadband appear in a small share of zones.

Compare that with Mississauga, where Rogers cable is mapped in about 95% of zones and Cogeco in only about 14%. If you’ve just moved across that line, expect a different set of choices.

These are shares of mapped zones, not homes, so check your own address.

A newer fibre network in town

In December 2025, telMAX, a GTA-based fibre company, broke ground on a network in Oakville, and by September 2026 it listed Oakville among the communities it serves. It hasn’t announced a completion date or how many homes it reaches. If you’re comparing providers, ask whether it reaches your street yet.

Whichever line you end up on, Boom TV works the same. It’s an app, so nothing is installed on the line and nothing changes on your internet account.

How much speed you actually need

Boom TV’s recommended speeds, per stream:

What you’re watching What you need
4K about 25 Mbps
Full HD (1080p) about 10 Mbps
More than one screen add each stream together

For Oakville, that coverage map lists cable at up to 1.5 Gbps and fibre at up to 8 Gbps, well beyond a few streams. Bell DSL is listed at 5 to 100 Mbps, so on DSL, test your speed before relying on 4K.

Test where and when you watch: on the device in the TV room, in the evening. Then add up your screens. A 4K TV in the family room and an HD stream on a tablet upstairs need about 35 Mbps between them.

When a fast connection still buffers

The cause is usually inside the house:

  • Use the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band, not 2.4 GHz.
  • Run Ethernet to the main TV if you can. It’s the most reliable fix there is.
  • Move the router out of the basement or utility room, or add a mesh point for upstairs TVs.
  • Count everyone on the network. Video calls, game downloads and cloud backups share the same connection as your TV.
  • Restart the streaming device now and then. Small sticks with limited memory run better after a fresh start.
  • Test in the evening, when everyone at home is online.
